Movement elder and longtime Waging Nonviolence columnist George Lakey is hitting the road for an international tour in promotion of his new memoir “Dancing with History: A Life for Peace and Justice.” As Daniel Ellsberg notes, “George Lakey stands out for the sheer range of his contributions to peace and justice. His upbeat, soul-driven spirit underlies it all, as you’ll catch in this revealing memoir.”
While a special pre-tour event will take place Nov. 8 at the University of San Francisco, the official “Meeting Our Challenges” tour kicks off Nov. 15 at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Events are free and do not require tickets or registration unless otherwise noted below. More dates will be added soon.
In the meantime, you can pre-order the book — which is in paperback — from bookshop.org to benefit local independent bookstores.

Canada?
George is a wonderful inspiring leader for making changes in our society. I especially liked learning how to remain calm while sitting on the floor of a bank where we were asking the bank to stop financing mountain top removal. Standing in another bank we learned how to stay grounded in spirit even as police were coming inside as we sat on the floor. In one bank, some of the customers walked out with us singing “we shall overcome.”
George is able to convey his message and his theories in very practical ways and promote a lot of creative ideas that we then put into practice.
Can’t wait to read the new book.
Is George coming to Europe at all?
Would love to host this amazing scholar-practioner!
So far, only Vancouver has asked for a tour visit. I’m interested in invitations from other places.

There’s strong interest expressed in Britain, by Quakers and the publication Peace News, but I haven’t yet made a commitment although am very interested. What do you have in mind?

Will there be an audio version of the book?
Any Canadian stops?
